Prisons, Mattarella: "A joint effort is needed, dignity knows no safe zones"

"Human dignity knows no free zones of exclusion. This is the premise that offers prisoners, through far-sighted paths, recovery and access to the values of sociality and legality." This was stated by President Sergio Mattarella in a message to the national coordinator of Supervisory Magistrates Monica Amirante.
"The Conference for the 50th anniversary of the penitentiary system is an important opportunity to take stock and reflect on our detention system in a particularly critical context. A strong push and a joint effort by all interested parties is needed, so that penitentiary life always ensures full respect for the rights of prisoners - especially the most vulnerable - in compliance with the principles of the Constitution, inspired by the sense of humanity that it prescribes".
"I hope that the Conference will provide useful ideas and proposals to increasingly implement the values of the Constitution, even in Italian prisons, and I extend my cordial wishes for good work to all those present", concluded the Head of State.
